Owner, operator & sole therapist

Hi, I'm Sheri Boyd

Change is the only constant.

I'm a provisionally registered psychologist (CAP) in Calgary, and I named this practice Shi(f)t Happens because both halves are true. Hard things land in our laps without permission. And underneath the mess, something can genuinely shift.

Before I was a therapist I spent years in the business world — an MBA, a career, a full life outside a counselling office. That detour is part of why the work lands: I'm not surprised by ambition, exhaustion, marriages under strain, or teenagers who have decided adults don't get it.

I work most often with adolescents that other therapy hasn't reached. Teens who are self-harming, shutting down, or fighting their parents daily. I don't perform enthusiasm at them, and I don't hand them a worksheet. We build trust first, then we build skills. The training list — CBT, EMDR, DBT, narrative and attachment-based work — matters, but it comes second to what's actually going on for the person in the room.

I also see adults one-to-one and couples through the Gottman Method, run a structured 10-session anger management program, and speak to organizations about mental health and resilience.

Years in business means direct experience with ambition, burnout, and the pressure to keep performing while your life quietly falls apart. That's not theoretical to me.
