Serving Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge & Rural Alberta

Whether you live in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, or a rural Alberta community, accessing high-quality, specialized mental health care should not require navigating winter highway conditions, fighting city traffic, or rearranging your entire workday.

Virtual therapy offers an effective, discreet, and flexible way to work through personal anxiety, relationship strain, trauma, or burnout on your own schedule.

At Shi(f)t Happens Clinic, our virtual sessions are held over secure, PIPEDA- and HIA-compliant encrypted video platforms. You receive the exact same depth, clinical momentum, and personalized care as an in-person appointment—from the comfort of your own living room or private home office.

Licensed to provide psychological services to any resident currently located within Alberta.

Why online therapy works

Why Alberta Clients Choose Virtual Counselling

Regulation in Your Own Safe Environment

Nervous system regulation, somatic tracking, and processing difficult emotions often feel more accessible when you are seated on your own couch, wrapped in your own blanket, or have your pet beside you. You don't have to face a busy commute immediately after an emotional breakthrough.

Time-Efficient for Busy Schedules

Save 60 to 90 minutes of travel and parking time. Virtual therapy integrates seamlessly into your life—whether during a lunch break, between client meetings, or after the kids are in bed.

Specialized Care Outside Major Metro Hubs

If you live outside Calgary or Edmonton, finding specialized care in Gottman couples therapy, attachment dynamics, or somatic regulation can be challenging. Virtual therapy bridges the gap, bringing specialized care directly to you.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can somatic and body-based therapy really work through a screen?

Yes. Somatic psychotherapy is conversational, mindfulness-based, and educational. Your therapist guides you verbally through physical sensation tracking, breath pacing, and grounding exercises. Many clients actually find it easier to tune into their bodies when in their own familiar space.

Can couples do virtual therapy from two different locations?

Yes. If one partner is traveling for work or you work in different parts of the province, our telehealth platform allows split-screen access so both of you can attend the session seamlessly.

Do I have to be in Alberta during the session?

Yes. Under Canadian psychological regulatory standards, your therapist is licensed by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). You must be physically located within the province of Alberta at the time of your appointment.

What platform do I need, and is it secure?

You will receive a private, encrypted video link by email before your session — no downloads required. It opens on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. We use dedicated Canadian telehealth software compliant with Alberta's Health Information Act (HIA) and Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and video streams are never recorded.
